"The Mercado"
Paintings like this one have always sold well in Santa Fe. Over the years, I've painted numerous scenes of old adobe structures, and I can tell you one thing for sure. I enjoy painting adobe a lot more than I enjoy making adobe bricks. When we had Six Gun City, there were two adobe buildings which I had to make the bricks for. That is boring, back-breaking work. My hands would ache from mixing the hay into the mud. I was always thrilled when we finally had enough bricks for w

"Dogged Determination"
This young cowboy is having a bad morning. Saddles are heavy and his horse is tall. His dog is not helping either. This painting was done for my second book with Harvest House Publishing, "Growing Up Cowboy".

"On The Canyon Floor"
This colorful canyon is on River Breaks Ranch, and this is part of their remuda. I'm blessed to have several friends with beautiful ranches that let me paint on 'em.

"An Uphill Battle"
These cowboys have been jumped by a small band of Comanche, and their only hope is to find cover. I can't see a tree in sight. Maybe there's a cave or large boulder somewhere close. I hope so.

"The Good Book"
This young grandson is learning the bible from his favorite person. My own grandfather had great faith and instilled it in me. This painting was used for my first book with Harvest House Publishing "Everything I Know I Learned From My Grandpa". The models for this painting and each of the paintings in the book were my good friends George McSpadden and HiHI Newby. Good models make good paintings, and these two were the best!

"A Chill In The Air"
These cowboys are camping in the open and forgot to bring their coats. They are having to use their saddle blankets for warmth. This painting gave me the opportunity to show how beautiful Navajo style blankets are. I got to show three of them.

"Home Health Care"
There was a time when doctor's made house calls, that still happens in our house since our son Joshua is a doctor. The house in this painting is at Boothill Cemetery in Dodge City, Kansas. I'm constantly looking for stylish Victorian houses. They work well in Old West paintings.

"Thirteen Kinds Of Trouble"
If you've ever tried to drive a group of horses by yourself to a place they've never been before, you'll understand this title. Every horse has it's own agenda. Been there, done that.

"The Horse Thief"
Here's another painting in which the title says it all. This outlaw and his pardner have stolen a small band of horses and are in the process sof making their get-away. With Henry in hand, the horse thief has stopped to take one more look behind him.

"Lee's Bay"
This is one of my favorite Plein Air paintings that I did on Creekwood Ranch. I feel blessed to get to paint beautiful Quarter Horses in the Palo Duro Canyon (especially when they stand still).
