"Cowboy Church"
I never tire of painting frontier churches and old Spanish missions. My faith is very important to me, and it was important to the folks in the Old West. I'm drawn to include this side of frontier life in my library of work.

"The Loose Shoe"
Monument Valley is a beautiful place, but it's not a good place to walk home from. This cowboy is checking a loose shoe and hopes it won't be a problem.

"Jumped On The Llano"
The Llano Estacado is where I am blessed to live. A hundred and seventy years ago it was called Comancheria as it was the stronghold of the most fierce of all Indian tribes, the Comanche, Anyone who dared to cross this part of Texas, did so at their own risk. Even the United States calvary dared not enter this part of Texas for many years. This unlucky trio has been found by the Comanche and must run for their lives. I think they'll get away, what do y'all think?

"Double Take"
Y'all know how I enjoy painting mirror reflections. With this simple background, I think the cowboy and horse make an ever more powerful reflection.

"The Kiss"
This young farm boy is receiving a juicy kiss from his best friend. I remember every dog I've ever owned, and I know I wouldn't be the man I am without them. Do you have a favorite dog you remember? This painting was done for my first book with Harvest House, "Everything I Know I Learned From My Grandpa".

"Stranger Danger"
The Old West was a dangerous place to be. In the 1870's there wasn't much law so folks had to be ready for any threat themselves. Here a lone cowboy is approached by a stranger in the dark. The stranger is waving back, but that hidden Henry rifle might come in handy if things turn bad.

"Mamma's Little Helper"
It's unusual for a mare to be turned out with a halter on, and this colt was the first to notice. It's hard to unbuckle a halter with your teeth, but she's doing her best.

"Quahadi Horse Thief"
The Quahadi (antelope) band of the Comanche were some of the best horse thieves in history. Quanah Parker's band roamed the part of Texas where I live. They measured their wealth in horses, and had no equal in stealing them.

"A Long Ways Off"
This pair of cowboys has their attention focused on something in the distance. Even the gray horse is watching. Is it Indians, a wildfire, or just an unusual cloud of dust? I'll let you decide.

"Rugged But Beautiful"
When the setting sun casts that last warm light on the Palo Duro Canyon, the colors become stunning. I've tried with this painting to capture that momentary magic. I feel so fortunate to have grown up in this beautiful canyon.
