12x16 oil on linen. Light colored horses under moonlight have had a prominent place in Western Art for many years. Frank Tenney Johnson was the master. This is my attempt. This painting will be available at the Small Works Great Wonders Show, November 7th at the National Cowboy And Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

It's just not this cowboy's day. Although he's made it across the river just fine, that uphill climb wasn't so easy. He'll have to spend a while cleaning the mess and trying to get all the dirt out of his flour.

I'll tell you an interesting thing about this painting. The horses and rider are coming downhill, so the reflection had to drawn completely differently from the way they were drawn. If you look at it upside down, you'll instantly see what I mean. The reflection is almost totally horizontal compared to the horses and rider that are entering the water at a forty-five degree angle. This painting was done for my first book for Harvest House Publishing, "Everything I Know I Learned From My Grandpa". I miss the countless hours I spent with my grandfather. He made me the man I am today.

Fall paintings are some of my favorites. The intense colors always pull in the viewer. Here, a cowboy is in the high country while the aspens sing, with his two pals, his dog and horse. I'll bet he appreciates the beauty that surrounds him.

This painting was done for my second book with Harvest House Publishing, "Growing Up Cowboy". What I like most about this paining is the dog's reaction. As you know if you follow my work, I always use the animals to help tell the story. The dog can't figure out what the boy's looking at, and the horse has given up and started eating.

Autumn among the aspens is a magical time. Jeanne and I try to plan a painting trip into the high country each fall. I've learned that if you time it right, there's an endless shower of yellow. I hope this New Mexico cowboy appreciates the beauty that surrounds him.

Years ago, Beef Magazine commissioned me to do four paintings for their cover and to sell as Limited Edition prints. This was the first of the four. I know well what it's like to be a very young cowboy helping his grandfather.

This was a very large painting and one of my favorites. I was blessed to have it appear on the cover of Western Horseman magazine, and it has been a very successful print in our website store. The location of this painting is the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. That's where they filmed John Wayne's True Grit.

I may be simple-minded, but I can watch leaves floating down a mountain stream for hours. For me, it's very relaxing. These were my thoughts as I began this painting.
