"Burnin' Daylight"
This cowboy is worn out. After a cold camp last night, he has slept past the crack of dawn. People think the life of a cowboy is romantic, but it sometimes means sleeping on the ground. Been there.

"The Discovery"
These two cowboys have stumbled upon a Comanche painting. I was actually with the Park Rangers when they discovered this painting themselves. I asked the head of the State Park if I could paint the scene, and he told me to change the location as they didn't want to tell everybody where this fragile painting was. I changed the background to our family's canyon and had my little brother Jessie and middle son Josh pose for me as the cowboys.

"Running Thunder"
I enjoy doing paintings in which the running horses are ducking and dodging each other. That's what they do you know. When this painting was on the easel in my studio, my dear friend Msgr. Tash said, "you have to name it "Running Thunder", so I did. (I always did what he told me.)

"American Pride"
This grandfather is performing his morning ritual of raising the American flag. His grandson has obviously been taught to respect our flag and love our country. Even his dog has his full attention on the flag-raising. The chickens don't. Chickens are not very patriotic. Hope you had a blessed Memorial Day.

"Mount Moran".
I don't often do straight landscapes without a horse or rider, but I thought one would be an intrusion into this painting. I love the Tetons and this view across the Snake River is one of my favorite places to paint. We are so blessed in America to have so many beautiful places to paint.

"Friends In High Places"
A country church in a beautiful mountain valley--this one almost painted itself. I'll bet those church bells echo throughout the valley on Sunday morning. This image was oth a successful Leanin' Tree Card and a Suns Out jig-saw puzzle. Folks identify with country churches.

"Ridin' Like The Wind"
This young cowboy is creative. He's learned how to fly his kite even when the wind isn't blowing. I'm glad his horse isn't spooked easily, or he might be flying as high as his kite.

"The Jitters"
I really enjoy paintings that tell a complete story in one image. The title helps with this one. The model for this is Shane Brooks. I have known him since he was born. He grew into a great model.

"Race To The Way Station"
Here's another stagecoach in the middle of a running battle. If the driver can keep ahead of this war party, he has a good chance of making it to the way station. I believe they will.

"Through The Aspen"
My wife Jeanne and I have enjoyed countless hours riding through the aspens in Red River, New Mexico. There is something hypnotizing about riding through those constantly quaking leaves. Once, when my youngest son was about seven, his horse spooked and ran away with him. We ducked and dodged the aspens for a couple of hundred yards before I was able to catch him and grab his reins. I may paint that one day.
